Missions

The Church’s mission is based on the words of Jesus recorded in Matthew 28:19-20:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

As a result, we have Springs as our Jerusalem, Gauteng as our Judea, Samaria as our South Africa, and then the uttermost parts of the earth - wherever the LORD may open doors for us to go.

  • In Springs we have involvement in and provide support to the Crisis Pregnancy Centre - Hope iThemba
  • In Gauteng, we currenlty support Jenni Meyer - Kids Gospel Ministry in Tembisa; and Campus Outreach
  • In South Africa we work with SAAWE (South African Action for World Evangelization)
  • The uttermost parts of the world finds our support going to Eben & Foong-Chan Burger in Senegal

Bible Way is a ministry to inmates of various prisons in South Africa. We have been privileged to be involved in ministering to individuals whom God has drawn unto Himself.

The year of 2010 under review has not been a very good one, the main source of students being Christiana - in the past, we have had 137 students from Christiana, but at this time only 6 are active. We also have students from Aliwal North, Standerton and Kimberly. Quite a large percentage apply for the first assignment, then do not carry on, but very much like missionary work, the seed has been sown and the rest is in the hands of the Lord. We can only be faithful in prayer for them. Some of their letters are quite moving and I do believe that some have come to know the Lord. I believe that this work is a ministry that God really blesses, a ministry of hope to men, who have no hope, who live miserable lives, who God's Holy Spirit works in them to study God's Word and then to show what they have learned by answering 120 questions in each exam.

Both Chrissie and I have had great blessings through this work, but reluctantly I feel I cannot carry on much longer. My eyesight is getting worse and I have great difficulty in writing. I pray the Lord will supply the right person to carry on the work. I want to thank Chrissie for all the help she has given me and the Church for their prayers and material help.

Hope iThemba's vision from the outset has been to meet mothers in crisis pregnancies with warmth and love, and to help alleviate some of the natural tensions which arise at times such as these.

Our Missions work reports back on 2010:

Throughout 2010 there was a regular missions focus time slot during the evening service. The focus of these presentations ranged from countries, people groups and missionaries.  After most evening services we gathered for prayer which was focused specifically on the missionaries we support and the different countries and people groups.  This year included the additional support of Eben and Foong-Chan Burger in Senegal. They work among the Wolof people group.

We as a church then decided to be involved with an outreach project and so we felt led to bless Jenni Meyer in Tembisa by fixing up two classrooms at a school she ministers at. This project proved to be a testimony to many who observed our willingness to bless the school.

In October we had our missions weekend and we had SAAWE lead the Saturday workshop as well as the youth on Friday. The Sunday we had a guest speaker and took up a faith pledge and the church pledged to give R87,500 for the sake of missions. This is also 20% more than the 2010 pledge. So we praise the Lord for the willingness of Springs Baptist Church to support missions and to be serious about spreading the fame of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
